How do you fix a printer that prints out paper with a line straight down the paper?

Q. I've been having some problems with me printer. Every time i print something out the paper comes out with my work and also a black line that goes straight down the right side of the paper. it ruins my assignments. it's an hp color laser jet 2600n printer. please help!

A. Sounds like an image drum (probably black) is failing.

Why does my HP 1020 laserjet printer show 3 flashing yellow lights on the control panel when I start it?
Q. When I try to start my HP 1012 LaserJet printer, it shows 3 flashing yellow lights on the right side where the control buttons and lights are instead of the usual green light, which means it's ready to print. I've lost my HP instruction booklet. HP did not respond to my email for help. Any helpful advice much appreciated!

A. Interesting as the HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00382141&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&product=3329758&rule=25045&lang=en shows it as having 2 LEDs not 3.

What is the best way to buy ink cartridges for Canon Pixma Pro9000 Printer?
Q. Genuine Canon ink CLI-8 cost too much individually. Eventually, buying inks will cost more than the printer after many uses. Is there a way to buy wholesale, bulk, or have the cartridges refilled by Canon Corp?

A. You can buy the Canon multipack, the only trouble with that is that you may not need all 4 colors. Compatibles are an even better way to save money. Go to toneramerica.com. I've been using them for 10+ years and they have never given me any trouble.

How do i print wireless from my laptop to my printer?
Q. I have a printer that is connected to my desktop pc. But i also want to connect my laptop to the printer but without any wires. I want to print documents while i am in my bedroom but they should print in my office, where my desktop and printer is located. What do i have to buy? and how do i Install it? Thank You.

A. the easiest way to print wirelessly from laptop to printer is to have a wifi connection available in your home and then have a wi-fi enabled printer. when you hit print the laptop sniffs out the wifi printer and prints accordingly.

the lexmark x4690 is less than a $100, installs in a few minutes and can also print good looking 4x6 photos- all wirelessly and all very easily. cartridges are about $20

hp printers are harder to install because their wifi connection is unreliable (doesn't find the connection all the time) and the set-up itself is very difficult. also hp bundles a lot of unecessary software that it downloads automatically (cartridges are about $35)

if you have an exisiting printer that is not wifi enabled there are work arounds like a usb dongle and software you can buy to "trick" the printer to work wirelessly but it's more trouble than it's worth

Why did my printer suddenly start doing this?
Q. My Epson printer and my fiance's HP printer have both worked fine up til' now...but suddenly, within two weeks of each other, they stopped printing!

The printer takes the paper, the ink cartridge moves back and forth and it takes about the same amount of time as a normal print, but the paper comes out without a mark on it! All the ink is brand new...any ideas?

A. The printers both sound like they think they are printing, the signal to print is going from the computer to the printer and to the ink. Either the ink is empty or has dried up and is clogging the print heads so that no ink can go through or there is some sort of electronic issue that isn't telling the print heads to fire correctly.

Checking to make sure the protective tape is off of the electronics is the first thing to look at on the HP if it's a double cartridge printer. If the HP is like the epson and takes individual cartridges for each color then there would be no tape. It's hard to say what the hp problem is without know what model or cartridges it takes though. If the printers have been sitting unused for a few months the ink could have dried up and clogged the nozzles in the print head. If it's a double cartridge system you can attempt to replace and see if it fixes is, if it's like the epson all you can do is try to run some cleaning cycles and see if it clears it up.

The problem with trying to trouble shoot things like this is that a lot of the time you end up spending nearly as much money to figure it out in ink as you would spend to just buy a new printer. If you want to give me some more details about the printers and some timelines I can try and help but without that, this is the best I can do.

How do i network a printer from desktop to a wireless laptop?
Q. I want to be able to send documents or whatever that i am working on to the printer that is connected to the desktop FROM my laptop.
We do have a router and its connected to desktop. But I am not computer savy so could yo give me sep by step instructions?
Oh wow, Sorry for the misspelled words, I guess i was typing way to fast and did not edit my response!!! Not really understanding the answers.

A. get a wireless router, connect the desktop to the internet via the router, set up a wireless network, enable print and file sharing on the desktop....

EDIT

ok, networking is not my strong area in computers, but what I did when i connected my kids computer was to plug both computers into the router.
use the network wizard to set up the network its really simple especially with a flash drive.
enable printer and file sharing.
unplug the laptop and try connecting via the wireless adapter.
make sure the printer is turned on and print something.

I dont know much about trouble shooting issues with the wireless.

How to use my printer from a separate computer?

Q. How do I use my printer from a separate computer?

Example: My family computer is hooked up downstairs and to the printer. I remember seeing laptops send prints to a printer without wires.

How can I do that?

A. I know exactly what you want, I send print jobs from my laptop all the time. I when I first set it up I had a lot of trouble so I will give all the details that got it to work for me.
Note: You must have the family computer on in order to send print jobs to it.
1. Make sure that both computers have the required hardware, you should have, maybe built in, maybe not, a wireless Ethernet card. You must have a wireless router that transmits on the same frequency (letters like G, and N represent frequencies) and the family computer must connect to that router either with wires or wirelessly.
2. Both computers must have a windows logon password in order to set up file and printer sharing (file and printer sharing go together but file sharing can be independently shut off later). To set a logon password go to Control Panel in the start menu, then open user accounts. Select your account or the one that you plan to use (I don't know if limited accounts would work) and click add a password. From there it is self-explanatory.
3. Make sure that both computers have different computer names. You can find the computer name by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties then click the computer name tab.
4. On both computers open Control Panel and make sure, in XP, that it is not in category view by using the button near the upper left. Then run the 'Network Setup Wizard'. During the setup make sure that you turn on file and printer sharing. I think that It is pretty much self-explanatory.
5. Restart your computers. Also do this after any step If prompted to for changes to take effect.
6. On your family computer open Control Panel, make sure that it is not in category view and click 'Printers and Faxes'. Right click on the printer that you wish to share and click sharing... Make sure that it is set to be shared (the Icon that you just right clicked on will probably have a hand under it if it is already shared but best check any way).
7. Youâre almost done :) Now on the laptop open 'My Network Places' (if you can't find it in start or on the desktop open My Computer and, in XP anyway, there is an other places menu on the right with a short-cut to 'My Network Places' in it.)
8. In the bar near the top type "\\<family computers name>" and press enter. You may also be able to access it through, 'View workgroup computers'.
9. Right click on the printer you want to and click 'Connect'. You will be prompted to install a printer driver, click yes.
10. You should be set. Just open your document, go to print it, select the new networked printer and print away!

Don't be discouraged if you absolutely can't get it to work, there are people who go to collage to learn about this stuff.

We have 4 computers at our house, an old computer a new computer and a 2 laptops. All 4 use there hardware to connect to 1 router that has shared internet connected to it. The laptops both connect to the old computer for use of it's printer but we absolutely can't get the new computer to connect to the old computer or any of the laptops for that matter. All I'm saying is don't feel bad if you can't get it to work.

A. Need help, your owners manual or service manual will have it,http://www.retrevo.com/samples/index.html if not try the support site on the internet. A search on the internet, or a quick look at http://www.wikipedia.org/ might be just what you need.

How do I know what kind of USB cable I need for my printer?
Q. I am looking for a particular USB cable for an older HP printer. The trouble is that I don't know how to describe it. The output and input jacks have varying sizes and dimensions. Is there terminology that describes the various sizes and dimensions, so that I can buy the correct cable?
The dimensions are different on the printer output jack, so it is not the standard USB cable.

A. I'm in agreement with Benjamin M. It'll be a standard USB A-B cable.

How can I add tackiness to a rubber roller in a printer/copier?
Q. The paper-feed in my old laser printer is having trouble grabbing a sheet.because the rubber wheel has dried out and gotten too slick. Any replacement part would be expensive and has probably already dried up on the shelf. How can I restore some tackiness to the rubber without gumming up everything? Double-sided cellophane tape is a bit too strong. I am counting on the Hobbies and Crafts community for a creative idea.

A. I've just washed the ones that I've had trouble with... soap and water if you can take the roller out.

Otherwise, what I find that's really good to clean various things is white-board cleaner fluid. but start small and see how your roller might react to it.

Your wheel is probably not dried out, but just covered with paper fibers (powder) that no longer permit it to grab well..

Why does my printer leave half my head off when I print?
Q. At first my printer was having trouble , and I went to the office depoit but now i'm trying to print out invitations and when I print it leaves half my head off . Does anyone know why my printer is doing this , And how can I fix this problem ?

A. You have a giant head.

Thank You.

A. the easiest way to print wirelessly from laptop to printer is to have a wifi connection available in your home and then have a wi-fi enabled printer. when you hit print the laptop sniffs out the wifi printer and prints accordingly.

the lexmark x4690 is less than a $100, installs in a few minutes and can also print good looking 4x6 photos- all wirelessly and all very easily. cartridges are about $20

hp printers are harder to install because their wifi connection is unreliable (doesn't find the connection all the time) and the set-up itself is very difficult. also hp bundles a lot of unecessary software that it downloads automatically (cartridges are about $35)

if you have an exisiting printer that is not wifi enabled there are work arounds like a usb dongle and software you can buy to "trick" the printer to work wirelessly but it's more trouble than it's worth

g luck

Your wheel is probably not dried out, but just covered with paper fibers (powder) that no longer permit it to grab well..

how to align printer after i missed the offer?
Q. hello, i have just installed new ink cartrige to my hp deskjet printer. from previous troubles i had the printer paused and i forgot about this. after inserting the cartrige i was offered to align the printer but i messed with it. it printed the test page and also the aligning sheet but i cannot set the correct parametres anymore. how can i try it again? it does not print badly, but just to do it correctly.

many thanx.

A. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on

Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges

Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display

Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute

Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button

Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges

Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer

A. Need help, your owners manual or service manual will have it,http://www.retrevo.com/samples/index.html if not try the support site on the internet. A search on the internet, or a quick look at http://www.wikipedia.org/ might be just what you need.
Good Luck
